Meru County Advances Budget Transparency Through CBTS
June 24, 2026 – The Nairobi Eastern Central Regional Budget Hub (NEC Hub) convened a strategic consultative meeting with the Meru County Department of Economic Planning to discuss the findings of the 2025 County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) and identify opportunities to strengthen transparency, accountability, and public participation in county budgeting.
The engagement was led by NEC Hub Meru County Budget Facilitator Kendi Muthomi and Hub Coordinator Nelson Maina, with the county delegation led by Director of Budget Dinah Marete. The meeting provided a platform for constructive dialogue on improving public financial management and enhancing access to budget information for citizens.
The discussions focused on several priority areas, including improving the quality and timely publication of key budget documents, strengthening disclosure practices throughout the budget cycle, and making financial information more accessible to the public. Participants also explored strategies for enhancing collaboration between the County Executive and the County Assembly to promote greater transparency and accountability in budget processes.
In addition, the meeting emphasized the importance of moving beyond short-term interventions by establishing sustainable institutional mechanisms that address gaps identified in the County Budget Transparency Survey while building on the county’s existing strengths.
NEC Hub remains committed to working with county governments and development partners to promote transparent, participatory, and accountable budgeting processes that contribute to responsive governance and sustainable development across Kenya.
