About
The NEC Regional Budget Hub is a collaborative platform that operates in the Nairobi-Eastern-Central (NEC) regions of Kenya. It encompasses 14 counties: Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Laikipia, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, and Embu. The hub is part of a broader network of budget hubs across Kenya, established to promote budget advocacy, transparency and citizen engagement in public financial management (PFM).
The NEC Regional Budget Hub
- Supports local budget advocates in engaging with county governments on budget issues, ensuring that resource allocation is transparent, equitable, and reflective of the community priorities.
- Facilitates collaboration between civil society organizations (CSOs), citizens, and government officials in budget planning, execution and oversight.
- Focuses on advocacy for vulnerable groups, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), ensuring their inclusion in budgetary considerations and public participation processes and incubates a Disability Mainstreaming Hub and Media Hub.
- Works closely with Bajeti Hub (formerly International Budget Partnership Kenya) to train and mobilize budget champions, equip communities with knowledge on the budget process, and advocate for policy changes that enhance transparency and accountability.
The NEC Hub serves as a focal point for citizen-led budget advocacy in the region, leveraging regional and county-specific insights to influence policy and budgetary decisions that support equitable development across Kenya’s counties.
Bajeti Hub, formerly known as IBP Kenya (International Budget Partnership Kenya), is a Kenyan-based organization that focuses on promoting transparency, accountability, and public participation in budget processes. Its primary goal is to empower citizens, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders to actively engage in public financial management (PFM) at both national and county levels.
